MICRO-CREDITS FOR FAMILY ORCHARDS / MICROCRÉDITOS PARA HUERTOS
This project in Guatemala grew after the last hurricane, Agatha, left Chahal area devastated and the people with no food. It is made up of three community vegetables gardens.
Este proyecto que nació a raíz de la tormenta Agata y el hambre que éste ha creado en Chahal, Guatemala, está basado en la creación de 3 grandes huertos comunales.
This orchards work throughout micro-credits. They are 3 big extensions of land worked by the families of the area that needed most help. They have been told how to cultivate the land and the new harvest. They grow a variety of vegetables and fruit to enrich the local diet that before was only of corn, chile, cardamom and beans only. Once the vegetables and fruit grow, part of it is distributed within the families, part is used to make small family vegetable gardens, and part is sold to give back the money of the microcredit for the family vegetable gardens.
Los huertos están impulsados por microcréditos. Son 3 huertos grandes comunales creados por los propios habitantes de la zona que más apoyo necesitan. Se les ha enseñado a cultivar estas nuevas plantas para su dieta. Están compuestos por diferentes plantones, desde la berenjena hasta el melón, para crear una alimentación más variada que hasta ahora estaba basada en maíz, chile, frijol y cardamomo exclusivamente. Una vez que dan frutos los 3 huertos comunales, parte se reparte entre las familias, parte se usa para crear huertos unifamiliares y parte se vende para saldar la deuda de los microcréditos de las familias para crear su propio huerto.
The local people of Chahal are doing a great job and a positive and expectancy climate has been created in Chahal and neighbor villages because of the innovative project for the area.
Un gran labor que está creando expectación incluso en las aldeas anexas por la innovación del proyecto en Chahal.
